DEWITT — Helen Anita Hildebrand, 100, died peacefully on Friday, July 24, 2009 at West Wing Place, DeWitt, Iowa. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, DeWitt, Iowa, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Jeff Wartgow officiating. A one-hour visitation will precede the funeral from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at the church. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery immediately following the funeral. Memorials may go to the church or West Wing Place.Helen was born on January 4, 1909 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Roy and Maude (Langridge) Mowers. She graduated in 1926 from Maquoketa High School. Helen Mowers and Willis G. "Hilde" Hildebrand were united in marriage on October 15, 1930 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They farmed side by side in rural Charlotte, Iowa for many years. He died in 1978. Helen moved to the city of DeWitt in 1982 and lived independently until her late 90s. Her memberships include the Congregational UCC and Women's Fellowship, Farm Bureau of Clinton and the DeWitt Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed her time as a 4-H leader being active in the 4-H club for many years.She enjoyed flowers of any kind, crafts and the outdoors. Survivors left to celebrate her life are her sister, Maxine Wimer, DeWitt, Iowa; her niece, Judy Gerzetich, Riverton, Illinois and many nieces and nephews.Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband and a brother.
