FULTON, Ill. — Allen Poel, 91, Morrison, Illinois, died Friday, June 19, 2009 at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Morrison, Illinois.Funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Monday at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. The Rev. Edie Lenz, Pastor of First Reformed Church, Fulton, IL, will officiate. Visitation is from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Internment is at Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, Illinois. Memorials can be made to Lions of Illinois Foundation — Macular Degeneration and American Cancer Society.Allen was born March 10, 1918 in Garden Plain, Illinois to Claus and Bessie (Prins) Poel. He was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools.He married Dorothy Buikema on February 22, 1940 in Fulton, IL. She survives. Allen engaged in farming in the rural Fulton area from 1940 to 1960. He was also employed by the former Agrico Company in Fulton, IL. Allen later worked as a supervisor for Drives, Inc. — Fulton, IL for 22 years until retiring in 1983. He was a member of First Reformed Church in Fulton, IL. He was active in Men's Brotherhood and the church choir. Allen served as an Elder and Deacon. He was also a member of the Whiteside County Farm Bureau. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; one daughter Marilyn (Arnold) Huizenga, Fulton, IL; one son, Eugene Poel, Fulton, IL; six grandchildren, Jane (Jerry) Lewis, Gary (Dawn) Huizenga, Tom Huizenga, Matthew (Sheila) Huizenga, Kim (Paul) Mehring, Craig (Jennifer) Bush; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.Allen is preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Bush; one sister, Tena Musch; and two brothers, Henry and Albert Poel.To send online condolences go to www.bosmarenkes.com.
