CLINTON — Robert F. Pittman of Clinton, Iowa died on his 82nd birthday, Saturday, June 13, 2009, at his home in Clinton. Services will be held at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory on Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. where a Rose Croix service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery at a later date.Robert was born June 13, 1927, in Granite City, Illinois, the son of Fred and Olive (Stulken) Pittman. He was a 1945 graduate of Edwardsville Illinois High School. He received his BS from Illinois State University and Masters, Education Specialist and Doctorate in Education from Northern Illinois University. Robert married Laura Joan Reynolds February 11, 1950, in Pearl City, Illinois. Robert served in the South Pacific during WWII in the United States Navy.He was a teacher and public school principal in the Chicago area for the first 20 years of his career. In 1969, he became the curriculum director for the Clinton Public School System, a position he held until his retirement in 1992. Robert was a member of First Congregational Church, was a member and past president of the Clinton Kiwanis, was a member of Western Star Masonic Lodge #100 A.F. and A.M., Clinton Scottish Rite Bodies, Kaaba Shriner's, the Clinton Shrine Oriental Band and was a past president and member of the Clinton Hi 12 Club. He enjoyed traveling, reading, golf and spending time with his family at their cottage on Lake Wisconsin.Survivors include his wife, Joan; sons, William (Loretta) Pittman of Vernon Hills, IL, and Mike (Ann) Pittman of Clinton, IA; daughters, Patricia (Ronald) Hinton of Pendleton, IN, and Jean (Jeff) Medinger of Clinton, IA; and 8 grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents.Memorials may be made to the Clinton Public Library Building Fund or the First Congregational Church.
