DEWITT — Mike McManus, 61, DeWitt, died Monday, June 1, 2009, at home. Michael James McManus was born August 18, 1947, in Clinton, to Edward Eugene and Edna Mae (Cooper) McManus. Mike was raised in DeWitt, was a 1966 graduate of St. Joseph Catholic School and served in the Army during the Vietnam Era. On April 18, 1970, Mike was united in marriage to Mary Kay Spain at Villa Nova Catholic Church. He was owner of McManus Home Repair in DeWitt, for over 30 years. Mike received an Applied Technology Degree in Electronics from Hamilton Technical College in 1987. Mike was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, and was active in the Church via CEW. He loved playing with his grandchildren and spending time with his family. Mike also enjoyed fishing, boating, playing guitar and harmonica, karaoke, crossword puzzles and the morning coffee club at the shop. Surviving are his loving wife, Mary Kay; children, Mike McManus and his wife, Jacki, and their daughter, Amelia, Davenport; Tom McManus and his wife, Jaime, and their children, Ireland and Ayden, DeWitt, Todd McManus and his wife, Kelly, and their daughter, Lilly Mae, Davenport, Mandy Wells and her husband, Nate, and their children, Fisher and Emery, Charlotte, Katie McManus and her son, Killian, DeWitt; his mother, Edna Mae McManus, DeWitt; sisters and brothers, Vicky (Duane) Poell, DeWitt, Judy (Dave) Sackett, Delmar, Janet Campbell, DeWitt, Richard McManus, Margate, Florida, and Roberta (Red) Peters, Cedar Rapids; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mike was preceded in death by his son, Gabe, and his father, Gene. The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 2:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009, with a vigil service at 7:00. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, with the Rev. Fr. H. Robert Harness officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dave Roling, Dean Frey, Bill Andresen, Jeff Jochimsen, Bill Spain, Bob Spain, Perry Spain and Mike Mangan. Honorary pallbearers will be Harry "Bino" Garrity, Tom Skoff, Dave Hanson, Dave Cook, Duane Poell, Claire "Red" Peters and Dave Sackett.
