CLINTON — Elsie M. VonThun, age 100, of Clinton, died Saturday May 16, 2009, at Mercy Living Center South in Clinton. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Wednesday at noon until the service hour at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rossiter Cemetery in Charlotte. Casketbearers will be Dale, Roland, Steven, and Erich VonThun, Shawn Corbey and Robbin Jones. Elsie was born on July 19, 1908, in Clinton, IA, the daughter of Herman and Marie (Hoffman) Jahn. She married August VonThun on Feb. 28, 1928, in Charlotte; he died in 1958. She was a homemaker and enjoyed baking, quilting and crafts. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. Elsie is survived by six sons, August (Joyce) VonThun Jr. of Fulton, IL, Dale (Mariechen) VonThun of Goose Lake, IA, Erich VonThun of Moline, IL, Roland (Phyllis) VonThun of Camanche, IA, Stanley (Nancy) VonThun of Andover, IA, and Philip VonThun of Moline, IL; a daughter, Judy (Wayne) Stithem of Prescott, AZ; 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 23 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Alvena Nemlevill of Rhinelander, WI, and Caroline (George) Andresen of Camanche, IA.
