CLINTON — Ruth A. Bentley, age 88, of Clinton, died Wednesday May 20, 2009, at the Alverno Health Care Facility. Funeral services will be held Friday 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton. Visitation will be held today 4 to 7 p.m. at the Pape Funeral Home and Friday 9:30 a.m. until the service hour at the church. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Patrick, Paul and Andrew Bentley, David, William and Charles Barker, Craig Moon and Michael Witt. Honorary pallbearers will be Melinda Appel, Danielle Guilliams and Amy Morley. Ruth was born on Jan. 7, 1921, in Clinton County, IA, the daughter of David and Malinda (Otto) Hallgren. She graduated from Welton High School in Welton, IA, where she was valedictorian of her class. She received her teachers degree from Mount Saint Clare College. She married William Bentley on May 3, 1947, in Clinton; he died in 1991. Ruth was a school teacher at the Flannery School, a foster parent and a certified nurses assistant at the former Clinton Retirement Village where she retired. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed playing cards, reading and spending time with her family. Ruth is survived by her daughters, Diane (David) Voss of Clinton, Susan (Kim) Barker of Low Moor and Sandra (Joseph) Moon of Clinton; two sons, William Bentley and Steven (Donna) Bentley both of Clinton; 11 grandchildren, 21-great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
