CLINTON — Sherman Sylvester Shearon, 83, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away Tuesday April 14, 2009, at The Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, May 15, 2009, at Lemke Funeral Homes, South Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at Lemke Funeral Homes, South Chapel, and internment to follow at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. The family asks that you join them for a celebration of life at Gill's Ballroom from 1 to 3 p.m.Sherman "Turk" Shearon was born February 21, 1926, in LeMars, Iowa, the son of John and Vera (Dominic) Shearon. Sherman joined the U.S. Navy in WWII and served in the Pacific as an electrician, first mate from 1943 to 1946 aboard the USS Chickasaw. After his tour of duty, he moved to Clinton where he met his wife of 60 years, Isabelle Robbins. They married April 30, 1949. Sherman worked for Interstate Power Co. until his retirement in 1983. Surviving Sherman are his wife, Isabelle (Robbins); his brother, Delbert (Marion) Shearon; his sister, Celeste (Richard) Masuen; and his children, Cheryl (Scott) Bartley; Julie Shields; Vera (Theodore) Ball; Mary (John) Parsons; James Shearon; Cecelia Shearon; Teresa (James) Maerzke, Peter (Dianne) Shearon and Dennis Shearon; 28 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren. Sherman was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at the Iowa Veterans Home for the extraordinary care they took on Sherman's behalf during his long illness and ask that gifts be sent to: Commandant's Office, Iowa Veterans Home, c/o Sherman Shearon Memorial Fund, 1301 Summit, Marshalltown, IA 50158. An acknowledgment letter will be sent to the family. From the arms of the angels at Iowa Veteran's Home to the arms of God; our beloved Sherman will be missed. Death date: April 14, 2009
