FULTON, Ill. — Raymond Meurs, 83, of 703 16th Ave., Fulton, died Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Mercy Living Center South, Clinton. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2009, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home in Fulton. The Rev. Wendell Davelaar, pastor of the First Christian Reformed Church, Fulton, will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 10, 2009, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton. Memorials can be made to Unity Christian Schools and First Christian Reformed Church. He was born December 25, 1925, in Long Island, Kansas, to Elmer and Nellie (Verhoef) Meurs.He was educated in the Long Island, Kansas, and rural Morrison grade schools. He married Alva Jean Temple on December 6, 1946, in Fulton. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked at Liquid Carbonic in Morrison, Ill., and AGRICO in Fulton. Ray also was employed at Ringland Johnson Construction in Clinton for 40 years. Ray was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, Fulton, where he served as a deacon and an elder. He served as an alderman for the city of Fulton in the early 1980s. He was a member of Carpenters' Local 772 Clinton. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. Survivors include his wife, Alva Jean, of Fulton; a daughter, Sandra Jean (Walter) Gorzney, of Morrison; three sons, Jimmie Lee (Becky) Meurs, of Davenport, John Ray (Deborah) Meurs, of Garden Plain, Ill., and Scott Dale (Dawn) Meurs, of Morrison; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, Henry Meurs, of Fulton and Wayne (Lois) Meurs of Colorado.
