GRAND MOUND — Marty Dusanek, 66, Grand Mound, died Thursday afternoon, April 30, 2009, at Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt. She was born Marlene Katherine Gerdes, September 29, 1942, in Monticello, Iowa, to Robert John and Celestia Mae (Kuhns) Gerdes. Marty graduated from Monticello High School and attended cosmetology and secretarial college. She owned and operated the Tower Cafe in DeWitt and Marty's Country Cafe in Grand Mound for many years. Marty worked at Swiss Colony, DeWitt, for over 10 years, was a correspondent for the DeWitt Observer delivered the Quad-City Times, Clinton Herald and Des Moines Register and did home health care. She was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Grand Mound, and was currently serving as chairperson. Marty was active in the Grand Mound Community Club and was president of the sesquicentennial committee. She loved her family dearly, raising three of her grandchildren. Marty also loved gardening and her three dogs. Those left to honor her memory are her loving companion, Gary Hintz; children, Michelle (Dom) Harbeck, Cedar Rapids, Julie Hintz, Grand Mound, Chris (Scott) Dunkin, Maquoketa, Kendra (Dave) Ertz, Grand Mound, Andrea Dusanek, Marion, Jonathan (Leah) Dusanek, Dillon, Colorado; grandchildren, Brittanie, Tim and Nick Harbeck, Dylan Hintz, Will and Marlie Delever, Dylan Kakert, Kala Dunkin, Tonie Hintz, Matthew, Marcus and Michael Ertz and AJ Bernauer; great-grandchildren, Bailey Jo and Robert Edward Timper, a sister, Mary Arnold, Texas; a brother, Merle (Nancy) Gerdes, Monticello; other relatives and friends. Preceding Marty in death were a son, Chad Hintz, a grandson, Mitchell Ertz, and her parents. The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound, from 2:00 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, May 3, 2009. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2009, in Saints Philip and James Church, Grand Mound. The Rev. Susen LeBlanc and the Rev. Fr. David Brownfield officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Grand Mound. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul United Methodist Church, Grand Mound, or Genesis Hospice. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
