CLINTON — David P. Trettin, age 59, of Clinton, died Friday, March 27, 2009, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 31st, at the Pape Funeral Home in Clinton. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until the service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Honorary pallbearers will be Ted Tubbs, Terry Doyle, Dennis Krogman, Kenney Bennett and Jason Whalen. Dave was born in Wausau, WI, on August 11, 1949, the son of Charles and Betty Fitzke Trettin. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1967, attended the University of Northern Iowa from 1971 to 1972 and was a 2004 graduate of Clinton Community College. Dave was a press operator at International Paper from 1973 until 2001. From 2004 to 2006, he worked as a RN at Mercy Medical Center in Clinton and currently was a para educator at Lyons Middle School as well as a wine specialist at HyVee Wine and Spirits. Dave was a member of First Untied Presbyterian Church and the Sons of AMVETS. He enjoyed talking politics and had been a precinct captain in the Iowa caucuses. He had served as president of GCIU local #711 and was a blood drive donor and volunteer. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye, St. Louis Cardinal and Green Bay Packer fan. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing pinochle, watching the Muddy River Rugby team and the Clinton LumberKings. David is survived by a brother, Tim (Teresa) Trettin of Camanche; a sister, Katherine "Kitty" Trettin of Redwood City, CA; and a nephew, Daniel Vosatka. He was preceded in death by his parents.
