ELDRIDGE — Anita D. Lahl Ryan, 89, Eldridge, died Monday evening, March 30, 2009, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Davenport. Mrs. Ryan, the former Anita Mumm, was born February 24, 1920, to Arnold and Anna (Hagen) Mumm at rural Walcott, Iowa. Anita attended Cleona Township Grade School, J.B. Young Junior High and Davenport High School, Davenport. She then went on to study at the State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Anita married Allen H. Lahl in 1940. The couple farmed for 23 years in rural Scott County and moved to Davenport in 1963. Allen preceded Anita in death in 1979. She moved to DeWitt in 1982 and married Gilbert "Gib" A. Ryan in 1983 and he preceded her in death in 2000. Anita has resided in Eldridge since 2001. She was of the Catholic Faith and attended St. Anne's Catholic Church in Welton for 17 years where she was active in its Altar and Rosary Society. Anita later joined St. Ann's Parish at Long Grove. She served at Senior Services in Clinton County and volunteered at the DeWitt Meal Site. Anita was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, the Plus 60 Club as well as various card clubs. She was a fan of the Hawkeyes and Cubs and loved to bake, cook, entertain, play cards and dance. Anita was very devoted to family and grandchildren. She loved to see them and join them at family gatherings. Surviving are daughters, Lynn (Donavon) Sievers, Stockton, Vicki (Dave) Porth, East Moline, Illinois, Sharon Lahl, Cumming, Georgia, Sally Bruce, Blue Grass and Denise (Michael) Adams, University Park, Florida; a stepson, Rick (Linda) Ryan, Welton; ten grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren, two great-great-grandsons; a sister, Lorraine Speth, Roswell, Georgia; a sister-in-law, Elaine (Clemmit) Gustafson, Walcott; many nieces, nephews and friends; and a special friend, Clarence "Sam" Doane. In addition to her husbands, Anita was preceded in death by her parents; a great-grandson, Blake Sievers; brothers, Lawrence, Melvin, Allen and Arlo; a sister, Leila Gust; and a son-in-law, Jerry Hart. The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Long Grove, from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009, with a vigil service at 4:30 p.m. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009, in the church with the Rev. Fr. Thomas Parlette presiding. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be made to St. Anne's Church, Welton, St. Ann's Church, Long Grove or Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. Pallbearers will be Mark Keppy, Lonny Sievers, Matthew Bruce, Jim Houseal, Jay Volrath, Mathew Collins and Troy Kruse. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Meier and Anthony Schlicksup.
