CLINTON — Robert (Bob) Muhs passed away Friday, April 3rd, 2009, at Bluff Terrace in Clinton, Iowa. He was born December 28, 1921, in Chicago, Illinois, to Louis and Florence Powless Muhs. He attended grade school and his first two years of high school at St. Mary's in Clinton and graduated from Campion High School in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. He attended Iowa State University and the University of Iowa. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Forces in World War II and served in the China-Burma-India Theatre. In 1943, he was united in marriage with Dorothea (Dottie) Husmann in Savannah, Georgia. Robert worked for DeVry Corporation, Altec Service, and, for most of his career, Western Electric. In California, he was an integral part of Project Mercury, America's first man-in-space program, and later served as an engineer on various U.S. Air Force missile programs. He is survived by his wife, Dorothea; and their three children, Daniel (and wife Tracy) Muhs of Boulder, Colorado, and their children, Zachary and Rachel, Laurie (and husband, Amar) Chaker, of Vienna, Virginia, and their children, Yasmine (and husband, Jake) Helminiak of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and Rachid Chaker of Arlington, Virginia, Janine (and husband, Scott) McKorkle of Sammamish, Washington, and their son, Nathan. There will be a private graveside burial in Albany, Illinois. Snell-Zornig Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. A celebration of Robert's life will be held this summer.
