CLINTON — Orville "Toad" E. Martensen, 93, of Clinton, died Sunday, April 5, 2009, at his home in Clinton.Services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 9, 2009, at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Clinton AMVETS Post#28. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home from 4:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m.Orville E. Martensen was born on October 15, 1915, in Sabula, Iowa, the son of Chris D. and Erma (Giddings) Martensen. He married Helen Johannsen on May 14, 1939, in Clinton, Iowa; she died in February 22, 1989.He was a 1934 graduate of Sabula High School; he later joined the United States Navy during World War II.He was employed at E.I. Dupont for 26 years, until retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, a life member of the VFW and a member of the Sabula Marching Band. Toad enjoyed: camping, arrowhead/rock collecting, fishing, trapping, gardening, wood working, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, morel mushroom hunting, boating on the Mississippi and traveling with his loving wife. Orville is survived by one son, Douglas (Sharron) Martensen of Nokomis, Florida, one son-in-law, Steven Stumbaugh of Clinton, one niece, Lavonne (Paul) Williams of Maquoketa, Iowa, six grandchildren "The BRATS," Lori Hinsch (Dennis Huss) of La Motte, Iowa, Stephanie West of Clinton, Paulette (Brent) Seeser of Clinton, Stacy (James) Evers of Clinton, Mark Martensen of Grapevine, Texas, and Jason (Leslie) Stumbaugh of Clinton, and eleven great-grandchildren, Laurisa (Eric) McKissack of Pensacola, Florida, Chelse and Hannah West, Paige, Brooke and Brenna Seeser, Kendra and Kaitlyn Evers, Matt, Aaron and Garrett Stumbaugh all of Clinton.Orville is preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen; his parents; one daughter, Penny; one sister and one brother.Memorials may be made to the family.Online condolences may be expressed by visiting his obituary at www.snellzornig.com.Death date: April 5, 2009
