CLINTON — Maybelle Emma Glunz, age 80, of Clinton, Iowa, died Friday, April 03, 2009, at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2009, at the United Presbyterian Church, Miles, Iowa, with Pastor Tom and Sandra Berryman officiating. Burial will be in Miles Cemetery, Miles. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2009, at Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston, Iowa. Memorials may be given to the United Presbyterian Church in Maybelle's memory. Online tributes may be given to the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com. Maybelle was born on May 1, 1928, on the family farm north of Miles, Iowa, to John H. and Mildred (Baker) Glunz. She had one brother and sister-in-law, John F. and LeClaire (Carter) Glunz. She attended the Wyckoff Country School through eighth grade and graduated from Miles High School, class valedictorian in 1946. She was employed at the Rich Toy Factory and Burpee Seed Co. and in 1959 she started her job at the Clinton County Treasurer's Office where she worked for thirty-five years, retiring January 1, 1995. Maybelle was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Miles and the Jackson County Farm Bureau. Maybelle always loved children and she was a wonderful babysitter. She babysat many children throughout her life but she especially enjoyed babysitting her nieces and when they were grown, she babysat all of her great nieces and nephews. At every family gathering, she always had small bags of treats and toys for the children. She was very proud that she helped support an orphanage in Zimbabwe through a pen pal that lived there. Maybelle enjoyed being with her family and she loved taking pictures. She enjoyed talking on the telephone and writing letters. She had over twenty pen pals from all over the world. She had many collections but her favorite was her doll collection. She enjoyed making desserts and she always baked delicious pies for every family gathering. Maybelle will be deeply missed by her five nieces, LeMay (Bob) Paulsen of Bellevue, Iowa, Jan (Bernie) Bahnsen of Bryant, Iowa, Mary (Don) Wisor of Moline, Illinois, Joy (Lyle) Knutsen of Spragueville, Iowa, and Diane (Jim) Weiland of Camanche, Iowa; twelve great-nieces and nephews, Lisa Schroeder, Marc Paulsen, Brian Bahnsen, Kim Hartung, John, Kirt and Scott Wisor, Lori Bodkin, Troy and Brad Knutsen, Jeff and Brandon Weiland; nine great-great-nieces and nephews. Maybelle was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister-in-law.Death date: April 3, 2009#
