Helen Battles 02/10/2001 MAQUOKETA, Iowa -- Services for Helen Battles, Maquoketa, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Carson & Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, rural Maquoketa. Visitation is 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Battles died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at Jackson County Public Hospital, Maquoketa. Dorothy Gisel was born March 9, 1915, in Andrew. She married Lynn Battles Sr. in 1937 in Davenport. They farmed 50 years in the Maquoketa area and managed a Montgomery Ward Catalog Store, Maquoketa, for several years. He died in 1979. Memorials may be made to Helen Battles Memorial Fund. Survivors include a son, Gary, Scott City, Kan.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brothers, Howard Gisel, Maquoketa, and Max Gisel, Andrew.
