Glen Stankee 08/09/1999 DeWITT, Iowa -- Services for Glen E. Stankee, of DeWitt, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, DeWitt. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Wheatland. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Mr. Stankee died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at The Alverno, Clinton. Glen was born Dec. 15, 1924, in Davenport, the son of P.W. and Florence (Stevenson) Stankee. The family moved to Wheatland in 1926. He began working for his father at the P.W. Stankee Co. at the age of 15. He went to work full-time for the company in 1942. In 1944, he enlisted in the United States Marines, took basic training at Paris Island, S.C., and eventually spent time in Hawaii and Guam. He was assigned to a replacement battalion which was preparing for the invasion of Japan when the war ended. He spent a year in China in the occupation forces before returning home. On Dec. 11, 1948, he married Marilyn Clark of DeWitt. He worked for the P.W. Stankee Company as a pilot, a salesman and as the treasurer, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Wheatland School Board and had served as its president for several years. He served as a director of the Iowa Implement Dealers Association, served as a volunteer fireman, was a member of the Wheatland Businessmen's Association and had been a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ since moving to DeWitt in 1980. He was extremely proud of his children, Brent, who worked with him for many years; Jill, who has worked for IBM for 25 years; Gail, who became a doctor and practices in Michigan; and Glen A., who became a lawyer and practices in Florida. There are six grandchildren who were the light of his life. In 1975 he married Orda Hansen Mackin. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, The Alverno or First Congregational United Church of Christ, DeWitt. Survivors include his children, Brent and Kate Stankee, Wheatland, Jill Stankee Camacho, Madison, Wis., Dr. Gail Stankee, Flint, Mich., and Glen A. and Carol Stankee, Boca Raton, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert R. and Dotty Stankee, Wheatland; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Don Christensen, Fort Collins, Colo.; six grandchildren, Christian Stankee, Grand Rapids, Mich., Lindsay Stankee, Chicago, Laura Elena and Robert Glen Camacho, and Lisa and Melissa Stankee, Boca Raton; many cousins; many nieces; and many nephews. Glen's devotion to his family and the P.W. Stankee Co. was obvious to all who knew him. He will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace.
