FULTON, Ill. — Ellen J. McEleney, age 86, of Fulton, died Wednesday Dec. 17, 2008, at Mercy North Medical Center in Clinton. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, December 20, at Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Parish — St. Mary’s Church in Clinton. The Rev. Anthony Herold will officiate. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the Pape Funeral Home in Clinton. Burial will be at St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery. Casket bearers will be her grandsons, Michael McEleney, Andrew McEleney, Shaun Hargrave, Patrick McEleney, Mark McEleney, Creighton McEleney, Stephen McEleney and Alex McEleney. Memorials may be made to Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Building Fund. Ellen was born on October 27, 1922, in Clinton, IA, the daughter of Joseph and Olive (Walker) O’Neil. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1939 and attended Mount St. Clare College. Ellen married Warren McEleney on June 10, 1944, at St. Mary’s Church in Clinton. She had worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone and at Schick Army Hospital during World War II. Ellen was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, Clinton Country Club and P.E.O. Chapter J.W. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Ellen is survived by her husband, Warren McEleney of Fulton; a daughter, Anne Hargrave of Iowa City, IA; five sons, Thomas (Janet) McEleney of Clinton, John (Virginia) McEleney of Fulton, Daniel (Rose) McEleney of Clinton, Edward (Carol) McEleney of Iowa City, and William (Tina) McEleney of Naperville, IL; 16 grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Dr. Donald McEleney of Clinton. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Susan in 1972, a son-in-law, John Hargrave in 1990, and a brother-in-law, James McEleney in 2001.
