STERLING, Ill. — Barbara L. Banks, 76, of Sterling, formerly of Morrison, Ill., passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at her son’s home in Sterling. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Church of the Nazarene in Sterling, with Rev. Robert J. Hasselbring, Pastor of First Church of the Nazarene, Sterling, officiating.Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Morrison Chapel of Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Sterling. Memorials have been established by the family. Barbara L. Alber was born June 7, 1932, in Blue Hill, Neb., the daughter of Albert P. and Laura (Holbein) Alber. She was a graduate of Farnam High School, Farnam, Neb., and the Sauk Valley Community College LPN Program. Barbara married John W. Banks on December 17, 1953, in Sterling; he died June 13, 2007. Barbara was employed by Illinois Bell Telephone Co. in Sterling, then Admiral Corporation in Dixon, Ill. She was later employed for 26 years in various capacities for the former Whiteside County Nursing Home and Pleasant View Nursing Home in Morrison, Ill., retiring in 1995 from the position of LPN and Social Worker Designee. Barbara was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Sterling, Ill., and a volunteer for the church’s Helping Hands Food Pantry. She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by one daughter, Bethany (Dr. John) Lorenz of Evansville, Ind.; two sons, Michael (Kathy) Banks of Sterling, Ill., and Jason (Lori) Banks of New Berlin, Wis.; four grandchildren: Tracy (Mrs. Ian) Geiger, Gregory Banks, Chelsey Banks and Paul Joseph Lorenz; twin great-grandchildren: Gwendolyn and Liam Geiger, and one brother, Albert W. “Bill” (June) Albert of Sterling. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Casket bearers will be Michael Banks, Gregory Banks, Jason Banks, Dr. John Lorenz, William Alber, Eddie Alber; honorary casket bearer will be Paul Lorenz.To send online condolences, go to www.bosmarenkes.com.Death date: December 9, 2008
