DEWITT — Mary Lou (Mrs. Harold) Peters, 83, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of DeWitt, Iowa, died Thursday morning, November 20, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Mrs. Peters was born September 7, 1925 in Dow City, Iowa to Hugh E. and Grace (Howorth) Butterworth. She graduated from Dow City High School. She married John Magovich December 21, 1945 at Dow City. From this marriage was born a son, Nick. John preceded her in death August 2, 1948. On October 29, 1949, Mary Lou was united in marriage to Harold Lee Peters at DeWitt. The couple owned and operated Peters Motor Company, the family business in DeWitt for 42 years.She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in DeWitt. Mary Lou enjoyed collecting antiques and glassware. She was known for being an exceptional cook. She especially enjoyed caring for her family and doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Nick M. and Jan Peters, Allenspark, Colorado, H. Claire and Roberta Peters, Cedar Rapids, and Dow W. Peters, Tucson, Arizona; grandchildren, Eric (Cortney) Peters, Brandon Peters, Zachary Peters and Erin Peters; two great-granddaughters, Nicole and Ellie; and a sister, Alice Paris, California. In addition to her husband, John, Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Harold on August 10, 2005, a son, Kent D. Peters, her parents, a brother, Jerry, and sisters, Naomi and Ann. The family will receive friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday, November 24, 2008. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, DeWitt. The Rev. Jeff Wartgow will officiate.
