CLINTON — Dirk S. Friis, age 65, of Clinton, died Sunday Nov. 16, 2008, at Mercy North Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 7:00 p.m. at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Wednesday 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation rites will follow the funeral service. Memorials may be given to the family. Dirk was born on March 4, 1943, in Clinton, IA, the son of Hans and Kathryn (Goers) Friis. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy from 1962-1966, serving as a navigator on the U.S.S. Kearsage. He married Linda Goettsch on April 11, 1966, in Clinton. He worked as a sheet metal worker for Local Union #91 of Rock Island for over 35 years, retiring in 2005. He worked with Air Control in Clinton, Scheblers in Bettendorf, and Johnson Contracting in East Moline. Dirk enjoyed fishing and lawn mower repair. Dirk is survived by his wife, Linda, of Clinton; a son, Brian Friis of Clinton; a daughter, Korinda (Tim) Knowlton of Republic, MO; a grandson, Jake; and two sisters, Janice of Clinton and Stephanie of Davenport.
