FULTON, Ill. — George S. Drolema, 96, of Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton, died Sunday, November 23, 2008, at the nursing home.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, November 28, 2008, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. The Rev. Tom Merchant, pastor of Trinity Reformed Church, Fulton, IL, and the Rev. Brian Akker, pastor of Christ’s Family Church in Davenport, IA, will be officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service, Friday, November 28, 2008, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment will be in Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL. Memorials may be made to Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, IL.He was born June 20, 1912, in Union Grove, IL, to Siert and Grace (Venema) Drolema. He married Gertrude M. Huizenga on January 20, 1953, in Morrison, IL. She died June 9, 2001. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. George’s youth was spent in the Morrison area. For a time, he and his family lived in the Dakotas. They later traveled back to this area on the dirt roads of Route 30. He was first employed by Pillsbury, Clinton, IA. Later, he was employed by Borgman and Huizenga Feed and Fuel, Fulton, IL. Then he worked at Climco Coils, Morrison, IL, from where he retired. After retirement, he worked at Sebert’s Gas Station, Fulton, IL. He was a member of Trinity Reformed Church, Fulton, IL; served as deacon and church custodian. Survivors include one son, Roger (Gail) Drolema of Albany, IL; two grandchildren, Jesse (Abbey) Drolema of Dubuque, IA; and Alyssa Drolema, Albany, IL.
