Dr. Williams Cranston Post, one of the most learned physicians in this section of the state, passed away Saturday morning at 7 o’clock, following two paralytic strokes.

Dr. Post was born in New Bedford, Mass., on the third day of November, 1849. He received his early education in the public schools of his home town and then thinking the study of medicine might appeal to him, he began reading under Dr. Aaron Cornish of his native town. In 1879 he entered the college of Columbia, New York City, graduating from same on the 13th of May, 1881.

He first opened up an office in New Bedford, where he continued to practice until 1889, when he removed to the country near that place, his home town in Dartmouth.

In December 1894 he came to Iowa, settling in Cedar Rapids, where he resided and practiced until in 1897, when he came to Maquoketa. He remained here three years and then went to Welton.

In the winter of 1902 he returned to Maquoketa where he has since resided.

In March 1893 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Sherman of Dartmouth, Mass. To them was born a daughter, Anita. The wife and mother passed away in October 1902, and in August of 1907, he wedded Mrs. Caroline Kerr nee Moles, who with the daughter, Anita, and step-son, Clifford Charles, survive.

Dr. Post was recognized as a skilled physician a humorist and a great sportsman.

He had the distinction of being president of the Iowa State Medical society for several years and also president of the Jackson County Medical society. For the past few years he has been president of the Maquoketa Gun club.

Funeral service will be held this afternoon at two o’clock from the M. E. church. Rev. J. J. Kidder officiating. Interment will take place at Mt. Hope cemetery. Drs. J. C. Bowen, Lowder, Ritter, Ristine, Johnson and Riggs will act in the capacity of pall bearers.
