Ullrich, Marjorie Julia Ketelsen "Marge"

CLINTON — Marjorie (Marge) Julia Ketelsen Ullrich age 92, of Clinton died Sunday, October 26, 2008, at Mercy Living Center North (formerly Wyndcrest Nursing Home), in Clinton. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, October 30th at Prince of Peace Parish, Sacred Heart Church. The Rev. Anthony Herold will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Doug and Dennis McDaniel, Jeff Ullrich, Larry Ketelsen and Karl Schmitz Jr. Marjorie was born August 7, 1916, in Sabula, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph Vernon Clark and Nellie Wait Clark. She attended school in Sabula until moving to Clinton. She graduated from Lyons High School in 1933. Marjorie married Carl Ketelsen October 28, 1936; and he died January 11, 1939. She later married Elmer John Ullrich, September 4, 1945, in Clinton. In her early years she worked at Grants dime store and Climax. After marrying Elmer, they purchased her parents’ farm and she assisted Elmer in the operation of Mar Mer Acres where they specialized in the feeder pig business. Marjorie also worked part time for Dr. Ralph Hawk Veterinary Clinic. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, the Pork Producers, Farm Bureau, several 500 card clubs and served the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary in many aspects for 26 years. Besides her family, she enjoyed reading, cooking, tasty deserts, sewing, knitting, crocheting, playing cards, watching golf and tennis. She and Elmer enjoyed their many traveling adventures throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada and Europe. They were able to travel to every state except Alaska. Survivors include her husband, Elmer; her son, Gary (Joyce) Ketelsen of Davenport; daughter Bethany (Gary) McDaniel of Clinton; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Carl Ketelsen; a brother, Wayne Clark; and sisters, Ellen Clark, Ethel Miller and Lucile Ullrich. She was the first person in her bloodline to live into their 90s and was proud of it. Memorials may be made to the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary or Prince of Peace Parish.
