CLINTON — Robert J. Sander, 84, of Clinton, died Tuesday, October 28, 2008, at his home. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Robert John Sander was born on December 31, 1923, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of William and Estella (Anthony) Sander. He married Margaret Cronk on January 19, 1946, in Clinton, Iowa. Robert was a graduate of Clinton High School. He also was a veteran of the United States Army as a paratrooper during World War II. Robert was a steel worker with Allied Steel for 25 years. He was also employed with the Republican Gazette in Phoenix, the Clinton Herald and Warren Industries. He loved to fish and hunt; and especially loved to hunt deer with his son, John.Robert was survived by his wife, Margaret of Clinton; one son, John (Pattie) Sander of DeWitt, Iowa; two granddaughters, Jessica (Bryon Manning) Sander of Maquoketa, Iowa, and Martina (Dan) Buckman of Camanche; six great-grandsons: Brett, Shawn, Drew, Mitchell, Kole, Bryon. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.Death date: Oct. 28, 2008
