CLINTON — Lewis D. “Dean” Honeywell, age 85, of Clinton, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, at the Alverno Health Care Facility. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday 11 a.m. at the Prince of Peace Parish - Sacred Heart Church. Visitation will be held Thursday 5 to 7 p.m at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Marc Barajas, Brent Kirkley, Kevin Elliott, Mo Honeywell, Hank Kramer, and James Keller. Dean was born on June 7, 1923, in Ames, IA, the son of Robert and Anna (Hansen) Honeywell. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1941. He served in the US Army during WWII. He was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium in December of 1944. He received a Purple Heart for his wounds and three Bronze Stars for his involvement in three separate theaters of the war.After the war, he married his childhood sweetheart, Jean Chellis, on Sept. 7, 1946 in Clinton. Dean was a clerk for the Clinton Post Office over 30 years. After his retirement, he worked as a grounds keeper at Valley Oaks Golf Course. He enjoyed, with his brother Bob, delivering Mobile Meals for many years. He loved playing golf and bowling with his many friends. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Dean is survived by his wife, Jean Honeywell of Clinton; a proud father of four children, James Honeywell of Clinton, Kay (James) Scott of Orion, IL, John (Julie) Honeywell of Winona, MN, and David (Gayle) Honeywell of Sabula, IA; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and a brother, Larry (Nancy) Honeywell of Chapel Hill, N. C. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister.Death date: October 21, 2008
