BRANSON, Mo. — JoyAnn (Allen) Propst, 75, of Branson, MO, passed to heaven Tuesday, September 23, 2008, in their home at Reed’s Spring, MO. following a brief illness. Services were held September 27, 2008, at the Branson United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the Evergreen Cemetery near Silver Dollar City. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and loving family member to all. She was born January 24, 1933, in Maquoketa, IA, daughter of John and Helma (Schnack) Allen. She attended rural country school in the Monmouth-Wyoming area, where her parents farmed. She attended Maquoketa High School and graduated from there in 1950. Joy was very active in school activities there (Band, Plays, Journalism, etc.). She attended Iowa State Teacher’s College for a year before her marriage to Howard Lee Propst Sr. They were married June 24, 1951, at Wichita Falls, TX, where Howard was serving in the Air Force. After his service time was completed, they spent many years in Iowa farming in the Clinton, DeWitt, and Monmouth area. Their four sons were born during this time, Howard Jr., Gregory, Warren, and Dan. In 1972, they began a new venture and purchased a resort (Pink Poodle Resort with a name change later to Still Waters Resort) in the Indian Point and Silver Dollar City area of MO.) Wherever they lived, they made countless new friends and treasured each of them. Joy was a a charter member of the Indian Point Women’s Club, and a lifetime member of the different resort owners who made up this organization, also serving a time as president of the organization. After selling their resort, Joy continued to work part time 15 years with Silver Dollar City, and at the time of her death she was employed part time by the Legends Theater in Branson. She loved attending the many shows and events of the area and meeting all the new people. She was an active member of the Branson United Methodist Church where she had served many years as a volunteer at their church thrift shop. She also served as past president of the UMC Women’s group. She enjoyed music, scrabble, reading, flowers, cooking, family dinners and time spent with her grandchildren going to different events with them. Joy and Howard also enjoyed a surprise 50th wedding anniversary planned by their children for them in June 2001. Joy was a lady of strong faith and often shared that encouragement with others. Her warm personality always drew people to enjoy her company as she was always interested in them and whatever concerned them. She and Howard were such outgoing hosts for all their guests, they never lacked for company to their beautiful hillside setting. The breathtaking view from their home was always a special pleasure for all to enjoy. They consistently put others interests above their own. They also enjoyed travel and made many trips via their camper seeing new areas and looking up many friends they had made over the years. Survivors include her husband, Howard Lee Propst Sr. of the home; four sons, Howard (Terry) Propst Jr of Louisville, KY; Greg Propst of Reeds Spring, MO, Warren (Lisa) Propst of Nixa, MO, and Dan (Tina) Propst of Hollister, MO.
