CLINTON — Orville L. Peters, 89, of Clinton, died Sunday October 5, 2008, at the Mercy Living Center North (former Wyndcrest, Clinton.) Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, October 9, 2008, at St. Mary’s Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Clinton. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Father Thomas Hennen will be officiating. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his four grandchildren: Brian, Michl, Bryson and Chelsea Peters; two brothers-in-law, Walter and George Goethals; and nephew, Lawrence Vogt. Orville was born July 18, 1919, in Clinton to Marvin and Lydia (Kuehl). He married Elsie B. Goethals on November 9,1946, at St. Ann’s Church in Long Grove.Orville served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served for 4 years and 3 months. He saw action in Central Europe, France, Belgium and Germany.He was also in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Purple Heart from wounds he received in Germany. He also received the Eastern Theater Ribbon, World War II Silver Battle Star, Four Oversea Services Bars, One Service Stripe, Good Conduct Medal and American Defense Ribbon. He served in the 3rd Armored Division from 1941 to 1945 as a half track driver.He was a member of St. Mary’s Prince of Peace, Loyal Order of the Moose, AMVETS, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Standard Brands Quarter Century and a lifetime member of the 3rd Armored Division.Orville also belonged to 3 trailer clubs. He loved to camp, play cards, dance and spent eighteen winters at Alamo RV Park in Texas.Survivors are his loving wife, Elsie; one son, Ronald (Patricia) Peters of Clinton; daughter-in-law, Connie Peters, Camanche; four grandchildren, Brian, Michl, Chelsea and Bryson; and many nieces and nephews.Preceding Orville in death were his parents, brother and his son, Terry.Memorials may be made to Hospice, Mercy Living Center North, American Lung Association or for a Mass.Death date: Oct. 5, 2008
