Maurice Swanton

The funeral for Maurice Cecil Swanton, 81, was held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Carson Funeral Home, Maquoketa. Burial was in Elwood Cemetery.

Mr. Swanton died Friday, Sept. 28 at his son’s home in rural Goose Lake.

He was born Nov. 28, 1902 at Carston Village, England, to Maurice and Helena Frey Swanton. On Jan. 10, 1934 he married Lillian Hinz in Maquoketa. She preceded him in death on Jan. 14, 1978.

He was a security guard at Clinton Engines and did some truck farming. He especially raised strawberries.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Darlene) Koch of Clarksville, Tenn., Mrs. Carlton (Margie) Harford of Newton; a son, Kenneth of Goose Lake; 16 grand children, eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold of Dubuque and Sidney of Monticello.

His wife, parents, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one sister and four brothers preceded him in death.
