MOUNT VERNON, S.D. — Marilyn Carlson, 74, Mount Vernon, S.D., died Tuesday, September 16, 2008, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.Funeral services will be 10:30 am Saturday at the Salem Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm Friday at the Bittner Funeral Chapel.She was born September 1, 1934, at Clinton, Iowa, to Tim and Genevieve (Cranmer) Carstens. She grew up at Clinton and graduated from Clinton High School in 1952. On April 2, 1955, she married Donald E. Carlson. They moved to a farm north of Mount Vernon in 1955 and continued to live in the Mitchell and Mount Vernon area their entire life. She worked for Regis, an inventory company for several years. She loved raising flowers and her favorite pastimes were playing cards and painting. She was a 4-H Leader for many years, an American Legion Auxiliary member and was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Mount Vernon and the Salem Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon.She is survived by her husband, Donald, two daughters, Cindy Carlson of Rapid City, and Linda Lang and husband Bruce of Pine Haven, WY; one sister, Pat Bickford, of Clinton, IA; two grandchildren, Rebecca Lang and Christina Nielson and husband Brant, and twin great-granddaughters, Grace and Emma Nielson, due in October.She was preceded in death by her son, David Carlson, in June 1989, and her parents.A Memorial Fund has been established and memorials are preferred.Death date: September 16, 2008
