CLINTON — Kathryn E. Purcell, age 77, of Clinton, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton. Kathryn has deeded her body to the University of Iowa Anatomy Department. A gathering of family and friends will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 13, 2008, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with a memorial Mass of the Christian Burial to be held at 11:00 AM with Father Thomas Hennen officiating. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Kathryn was a lifelong resident of Clinton. She was born to Carmel (Salutz) and John Purcell December 30, 1930. She graduated from Our Lady of Angels Academy in Clinton. She retired from AT and T as a service assistant and then worked in housekeeping at Jane Lamb Hospital in Clinton. She retired from there also, but remained a very active lady. Kathryn was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish, Prince of Peace Ladies Auxiliary, and Daughters of Isabella. She devoted many years of service to the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary where she served on the Board of Directors as chairperson of surgical waiting. Kathryn also served as the chairperson of admitting for several years, as well as volunteering at the Mercy Thrift Shop. Kathryn loved to play cards of which she was a member of several card clubs. She loved being with her friends, neighbors, her special family and her pets. She also enjoyed working in her yard. She loved to take trips, especially the Mystery Bus Trips. Kathryn is survived by her sister, Sister Carmel Mary Purcell of Dubuque, Iowa, cousins, dear friends, and her special family, the Buntemeyers. She was preceded in death by her parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Prince of Peace Building Fund, Clinton Humane Society or Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary of Clinton.
