Nabb, Eleanor V.

PETERSVILLE — Eleanor V. Nabb, 90, of Petersville, died Saturday, August 9, 2008, at Jackson County Regional Health Center, Maquoketa, following a lengthy illness. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Petersville, with the Rev. David Brownfield officiating. Burial will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Petersville, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa, where a rosary will be held at 4:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Tuesday one hour before service time at the church. Eleanor Viola Grandick was born on February 7, 1918, in Petersville, Iowa, daughter of John and Catherine (Ronowski) Grandick, Sr. She married Leon C. Nabb on August 6, 1938, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Petersville, Iowa. He died on January 21, 1959. She had been a housekeeper for area families, worked at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa, and had been a cook at Clinton County Care Facility for many years. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Petersville, Catholic Daughters of America Court St. Raphael 1156 and the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved playing cards and bingo, traveling, and going to community gatherings. Eleanor enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Spidle of Delmar and Jan (Francis) Lindemann of Petersville; 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathryn “Dolly” (Dale) Hamerlinck of Milan, Illinois; one brother, Albin (Ethel) Grandick, of Council Bluffs; two sisters-in-law, Gertie Grandick of Delmar and Arla Grandick of West Virginia; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter in infancy, one son, Thomas, on October 12, 2007, her parents, a son-in-law, Robert Spidle, one grandson, one sister, and four brothers.
