GOOSE LAKE — Willard A. Lewis Sr., age 69, of Goose Lake, IA, died Sunday Aug. 10, 2008, at Mercy North Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Tuesday 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Following the funeral service, cremation rites will be accorded and burial will be at Rock Island Arsenal Cemetery in Rock Island. Willard was born on Sept. 29, 1938, in Scranton, IA, the son of Winfred and Gladys (McClelland) Lewis. He served proudly with the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1974, achieving the rank of petty officer first class upon retirement. He also worked at the Rock Island Arsenal Police Department, retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Preston American Legion and Goose Lake Lions Club. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and karaoke. Willard is survived by his three sons, Willard (Sandy) Lewis Jr. of Sierra Vista, AZ, Timothy (Melissa) Lewis of Marion, IA, Kenneth Lewis of Goose Lake; two daughters, Faith Vaughn of Blair, NE, and Lisa (Kent) Newcomer of Plainfield, IL; and Earlene Lewis of Camanche, Iowa, mother of the five children; a special friend, Dana Frazier of Goose Lake; 13 grandchildren; a brother, Roger (Flo) Lewis of Clinton; and three sisters, Winnie Jo (Mike) Jones of Fulton, IL, Janice (Mike) Haan of Camanche, and Janelle (Larry) Pridemore of Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a grandson.Death date: Aug. 10, 2008
