ALBANY, Ill. — Garrett Housenga, 85, of Albany, died Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at his home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at Albany United Methodist Church with the Rev. David W. Davies Jr., pastor of Albany United Methodist Church in Albany, officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 11, 2008, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment will be in Lusk Memorial Cemetery, Albany, IL, with graveside military funeral honors by Albany American Legion Hanson-Kennedy Post 1079. Memorials will be established. He was born Sept. 1, 1922, in Fulton, IL, to John M. and Annie (Loots) Housenga. He was educated in Fulton grade schools and attended Fulton High School. He married Bessie A. Reedy on Sept. 26, 1945, in Albany, IL. She survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WWII. He was employed by Fulton Corp. in Fulton, IL, for 40 years. He was a member of Albany United Methodist Church and had served as a volunteer firefighter for the Albany Fire Protection District. Garrett had also served on the Albany Grade School Board. He enjoyed fishing and camping. Survivors include his wife, Bessie; one daughter, Sandra (Mrs. Randy) Moberg of Albany, IL; one son, Gary (Sandy) Housenga of Albany, IL; eight grandchildren, Lori (Mark) Swift, Brian (Anneta) Ammon, Brenda (Troy) Lange, Steven Langy, Traci Kaas, Paul (Stephanie) Housenga, Richard (Wendy) Housenga, Deanna (Lalo) Solis; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Evelyn Clark of Aurora, IL.He was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, four sisters and two brothers.
