CLINTON — Prentice William Shaw, 96, of Nevis, MN, and Clinton, Iowa, died on Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids, MN.Prentice was born on December 29, 1911, in Plover, Iowa, the son of George and Alma (Stewart) Shaw. He grew up and attended school in Plover, Iowa. He attended Morningside College, then later Iowa State University in Ames, where he received his degree in Chemistry. He went on to attend Drake Law School, where he received his law degree.He enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served during World War II as a Judge Advocate. He was honorably discharged in 1945.For several decades, he practiced law in Clinton, Iowa, with Holleran, Shaw, Murphy and Stoutner Law Firm. He retired in the early 1980s.He married Phyllis J. Madden-Macke on July 4, 1958, in Clinton, Iowa. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, collegiate sports and agate/rock polishing. Prentice loved his home on Lake Belle Taine, spending 90 summers at the family property.He is survived by four children: Prentice G. “Tim” (Danielle) Shaw of Chicago, Illinois; Charles P. (Mary) Shaw of Clinton, Iowa; Dennis J. (Barbara) Shaw of Plymouth, Minnesota; Carolyn Shaw of Sacramento, California; six grandchildren: Bob, Lori, Jenny, Charlie, Prentice and Allison; four great-grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews.Preceding him in death was his wife, Phyllis, and two sisters, Dorothy and Edie.Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Pape Funeral Home in Clinton, Iowa, on Wednesday, July 30, 2008. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Casket bearers are Robert Shaw, Prentice Shaw, Charlie Shaw, Jason Stewart, Sean Weller and Robert Hughes. Interment will be at the Clinton Lawn Cemetary in Clinton, Iowa.The family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer Association.Death date: July 23, 2008
