Kent, Betty B. View/Sign Guest Book

Funeral services celebrating the life of Betty B. Kent of Grand Mound, will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Grand Mound with the Rev. Susan LeBlanc and the Rev. Charles Kelsey officiating. Visitation will be at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound, Wednesday, July 23, 2008, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Betty B. Kent, 84, entered eternal rest Sunday, July 20, 2008, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, IA. She was born in Grand Mound on May 17, 1924, to Alma (Blunck) and H. Leonard Jensen. She married Donald C. Kent on January 15, 1946, in the Grand Mound Methodist Church. She lived in Grand Mound, her entire life, raising her family there, working in the family accounting service and serving as the Methodist Church organist for over 40 years (following her mother, Alma, and aunt, Etta, in that capacity). Betty is survived by her husband, Don, Grand Mound; three children, Alan, of McCausland, Steve (Becki), of DeWitt and DeAnn (Ron), of McFarland, WI; six grandsons, Andy (Michelle) Kent of Avondale, AZ, Drew Selim of Boone, IA, Scott Selim (Kara) of Ames, IA, Karl Larson of Bowling Green, OH, and Lars-Erik and Leif Larson of McFarland, WI; four great-granddaughters, Brittany, Bridgette, Brenna and Brooke of Avondale, AZ; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Jessie Kent of Pembroke Pines, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents and numerous aunts and uncles. Betty will be fondly remembered for many reasons, perhaps most especially for her quick wit, musical abilities, passion for frogs, love of the natural world, creative eye for beauty, zest for travel and care and compassion for others. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be given to the Grand Mound United Methodist Church or Hospice Care of Clinton County and the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. Thank you to ALL for your gentle care during Mom’s illness. How should I fear to die? Have I not seen The color of a small butterfly, The silver sheen Of breaking waves and a wood-dove’s wings? Have I not marked the coat Of mouse and deer, The shape of flowers, the thrush’s speckled throat —And shall I fear To fall into the hands that made these things? — Teresa Hooley, England
