MOUNT CARROLL, Ill. — Eugene R. Hammond, 78, of Mount Carroll, died Friday, July 18, 2008, at Morrison Community Hospital, Morrison, IL. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. The Rev. Mark Harkness, pastor of Mount Carroll United Methodist Church, Mount Carroll, IL, will be officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mount Carroll, IL. Memorials may be made to the Mount Carroll Ambulance Association. He was born February 14, 1930, in Fulton, IL, to Alvin and Henrietta (Buikema) Hammond. He was educated in the Fulton Grade School and attended Fulton High School. He married Mae L. Hoogheem on January 30, 1951, in Fulton, IL. She died February 08, 2003. He served in the United States Army in Korea. Eugene farmed in the rural Mount Carroll area from 1954 to 1972. Eugene also worked at Alco Dispensing in Savanna. Eugene along with his wife also helped at the Flower Fan-A-see Flower shop in Mount Carroll. He was a member of Mount Carroll United Methodist Church, Mount Carroll, IL. He was an avid bird watcher. He also enjoyed gardening and yardwork. Survivors include two daughters, Gaylene S. Hammond of Fulton, IL, and Janis (Mrs. Olen E.) Pepple of Mount Carroll, IL; four grandchildren, Alyssa M. Wiedenhoff, Anya Wiedenhoff; Silas (Margaret) Pepple, Olen J. (Michiko) Pepple; three great-grandchildren, Keaton James and Lucas Tingley, Misa Mae Pepple; and two sisters, LaVerta (Don) Grandlinard of Argos, IN, and Lois Hansen of Gardena, CA.
