CALAMUS — Shirley (Mrs. Darold) Dieckmann, 72, Calamus, Iowa, died Saturday morning, July 19, 2008, at Genesis Medical Center-DeWitt. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 22, from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Schultz Funeral Home in Grand Mound, Iowa. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 23, at 10:30 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church in Calamus with the Rev. Susen LeBlanc officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Calamus. Shirley was born November 15, 1935, in Welton, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Letha (Webb) Carber. She graduated from Welton High School in 1953 and was united in marriage to Darold “George” Dieckmann on January 11, 1959. Together they raised three wonderful children in Calamus. She worked for many years for the Calamus-Wheatland School District, retiring in 1999. Shirley was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Calamus. She enjoyed playing cards with “the girls,” visiting with friends at Monday morning coffee at Steffens, and watching all sporting events, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. She attended many of her children and grandchildren’s school events. She was well known for her cinnamon rolls and caramel rolls. Her final act of love was through tissue donation.She is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, George; her son, Joel and his wife, Brenda, of DeWitt; her daughter, Julie and her husband, Frank Hutchins, of Merced, California; a daughter-in-law, Nida Dieckmann of Davenport; her six grandchildren, Erin, Kyle, Devon, Drew, Jon Jr., and Joshua; her three great-granddaughters, Kaila, Aurelia, and Lily and one soon-to-be great-grandson; two brothers, Gene Carber of DeWitt and Robert (Terry) Carber of DesMoines; a sister-in-law, Lois Dieckmann of Calamus; and many special nieces and nephews. Preceding Shirley in death were her son Jon; her parents; her sisters, Donna and Susan; and her brother, Bill. Condolences may be expressed at www.schultzfuneralhomes.com.Death date: July 19, 2008
