LOST NATION — Kermit L. McCutcheon, 86, of Lost Nation, died Friday, July 4, 2008, at Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue, Iowa, following a lengthy illness. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, 10:30 a.m. at Union Presbyterian Church in Lost Nation, with the Rev. Iola McCutcheon officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa, with military honors. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lahey Funeral Home in Lost Nation. Memorials are preferred. Kermit L. McCutcheon was born on May 13, 1922, in Maquoketa, Iowa, son of Frank William McCutcheon and Florence Louella (Caven) McCutcheon. He graduated from Delmar High School in 1940. He married Darlene M. Jones on July 15, 1945, at the United Methodist Church, in Delmar, Iowa. She died on December 26, 2005. He served in the U.S. Army as a radio operator with the famous Timberwolves Division. He received many honors including the Bronze Star. He owned and operated Lost Nation TV and Appliance in Lost Nation for 36 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church, Lost Nation, a 63-year member of American Legion Menzo Widle Post 381 of Lost Nation and O’Connor-Regenwether VFW Post 3633 of Maquoketa. He is survived by 2 sons, Tommy McCutcheon, of Lost Nation, and James McCutcheon, of Maquoketa; 2 grandchildren, James P. McCutcheon and Lynn McCutcheon; one great-grandson, Zachery Cummings; 2 sisters, Donna (Clayton) Sherwood, of Fulton, Illinois, and Glatha Ales, of Pekin, Illinois; sister-in-law, Florence McCutcheon, of Delmar; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and three brothers, Perry, Marvin and Kenneth. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.laheys.com.Death date: July 4, 2008
