THOMSON, Ill. — William “Bill” Meints Vogt, age 88, of rural Thomson, Illinois, died Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at home. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2008, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 819 S. Fifth St., Clinton, Iowa. The Reverend Paul Holmer will officiate. Burial will be in Savanna Township Cemetery with full military rites accorded by the Savanna VFW and American Legion. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2008, at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson. By request of the family, memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Organ fund or Mercy Hospice, Clinton. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com. Bill was born April 11, 1920, in Grand Mound, Iowa, the son of William and Selma (Meints) Vogt. He was baptized at Grand Mound Lutheran Church and confirmed at Clinton Immanuel Lutheran Church, Clinton, Iowa. Bill graduated from Clinton High School in 1938. Bill served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1942-1945, with the 79th Infantry, 463rd AAA Battalion. He served in England, France, Germany and Belgium. Bill enjoyed attending the military reunions. He married Madonna Ann Dierks in 1946. He later married Marjalone Jane (Harry) Roberts in 1979. He was an electrician with Clinton Corn Processing for forty years and a member of their 25-year club. He was an electrician with IBEW 145 for two years and with Clinton Electrical and Mechanical for five years. Bill was a great Dad and loved his children and brothers and was very proud of all their families and their accomplishments. He never failed to tell them he loved them. Bill always looked forward to the family reunions. He was a member of Clinton Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Savanna American Legion and the Savanna VFW. He was a charter member of Lynnwood Lynks Golf Course since 1976. Bill played baseball in his younger years. He loved to bowl and golf. He knew more sports statistics than most sports announcers. He followed the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Chicago Bulls. Bill is survived by his wife, Jane; four daughters, Carol (Frank) Cincola of Moline, Illinois, Linda (Pat) Burke of Wichita Falls, Texas, Sharon (Jim) Pieczynski of Goose Lake, Iowa, Debra (Jim) Pope of Thomson, Illinois; two sons, William (Regina) Vogt of Forest, Ohio, David (Cheryl) Vogt of Chandler, Arizona; stepson, Michael (Patti) Roberts of Castle Rock, Colorado; two brothers, Jack (Anne) Vogt of Harlingen, Texas and Chuck (Jeannette) Vogt of Bonita Springs, Florida; sixteen grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter; and twenty great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his golf family at Lynnwood Lynks. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Kathryn, at age fourteen, and a brother, Stanley, at age three weeks.Death date: June 25, 2008
