MARENGO — LeRoy E. Schroeder, 73, of Marengo, died Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at his home surrounded by his loving family.He was born Nov. 11, 1934, in Bellevue, Iowa, to John and Louise (Milder) Schroeder. On Feb. 11, 1956, he married Grace M. Kampling in Clinton, Iowa.He was a resident of the Marengo area for more than 40 years and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Marengo.He farmed in the area for the majority of his life, and in later years he worked in construction.Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Grace Mae; their nine children, Larry of Elkhorn, Wis., Christine (John) Wendt of Belvidere, Donna (Greg) Jensen of McHenry, Marcia of Delavan, Wis., Denise of Woodstock, LeRoy Jr. (Gayle) of Marengo, Andrew (Kathy) of Marengo, Ginny (Allen) Proffitt of Marengo, and Kelly (John) Greer of Delavan, Wis.; his grandchildren, Tina, Nicholas, Patrick, Jonathan, Amanda, Jeremy, Chad, Trisha, Jennifer, Michelle, Ashley, Katie Rose, Tanya, Trina, Shannon, Travis Behrens, Daniel, Michael, Jaclyn, Adrienne, Austin, Tyler, Keegan and Sara; and his great-grandchildren, Raven, Nicole, Antoni, Lilly Rose and Logan. Other survivors include his sisters, Laura, Vera, Minnie, Maleta, Alberta, Maxine and Loretta, all of Clinton, Iowa; Clara of Bull Head City, Ariz., and Jeannette (Gerald) Smith of Thomson, IL; his brothers, Edward (Mary) of Austin, Minn., and Bill of Clinton, Iowa; brothers-in-law George (Mary Jane) Kampling of Clinton, IA, Joe Kampling of Camanche, IA; and countless nieces, nephews and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, John and Henry; and a grandson, Jesse A. Schroeder.The visitation and Mass will be held Saturday morning, June 28, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 323 N. Taylor St., Marengo. The Rev. Richard Russo will officiate. Private family burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Marengo.The omission of flowers is requested.
