SAVANNA, Ill. — John C. Schoenwolf, after struggling with a variety of health issues over the last several years has returned to Our Heavenly Father on Monday, June 16, 2008, at St. Clare Hospital, Lakewood, Washington, surrounded by loving members of his family. A Memorial Gathering will be held 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna, with a Memorial Service following at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Schoenwolf was born April 9, 1948, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Henry J. and Edith (Holman) Schoenwolf. After finishing his schooling in Thomson, Illinois, he became a Law Enforcement Officer in the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, Mt. Carroll as well as Chief of Police in Lanark, Illinois. John married Sheryl Dauphin on March 16, 1974, at the Thomson United Methodist in Thomson, Illinois. He spent several years at the Clinton Car Shops and in construction through the union hall in Clinton, Iowa. In 1979, he spent the next 25 years as a Superintendent of Construction building modular structures for Boeing in Washington State, Exxon in the oil fields of Wyoming, Trident Seafood on the North Slope and Aleutian Islands in Alaska. He also built modular structures in Trinidad West Indies and school classrooms, banks and prisons throughout the western, southwestern United States and Canada. John was a member of the Savanna Moose Lodge 1095 and the American Legion Post 57. John loved life and spending time with his family. He loved fishing, hunting his ongoing flea market south of Savanna, phone and e-mails with his very good friend Bill Griffin of Snohomish, WA, and visits with his brother-in-law, Max Dauphin, and cousin, Steve Parsons. His sense of humor will be remembered by all. He will always be remembered as the heart and soul of our family, and his passing will leave a giant void that can never be filled. John is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Sheryl (Dauphin); five sons, Burt (Missie) of Casper, WY, John G. (Tanya), of Apache Junction, AZ, Charles (Jacque) of Casper, WY, Tony of Morrison, IL, and Joseph of Burlington, WA; and one daughter, Ramona (Rocky) Rawcliffe of Tacoma, WA. Thirteen grandchildren, John C. II, Anthony, Brittany, Tabitha, Mitchell, Daniel, David, Heather, Rebecca, Andrew, Ashley, Chelsea and Steven; three great-grandchildren, Julian, Joshua, Bailey and 2 forthcoming this fall; also numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. John is also survived by three sisters, Jean (Dave) Law Morrison, IL, Tracy (Jim) McCartney Morrison, IL, Liz Downs, Fox Lake, Wisconsin; and four brothers, Norman (Michelle) Phoenix, AZ, Charlie, Monroe, Wisconsin, David (Vicki) Brodhead, Wisconsin, and Kevin (Marge) Dade City, Florida. John was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Henry Schoenwolf, foster parents John and Delilah Rice of Thomson, and a grandson, Tyler LaRue Schoenwolf. Death date: June 16, 2008
