CLINTON — Esther Luella Brandt was born on November 12, 1918, the daughter of August C. Brandt and Matilda Gade Brandt in Alda, Minnesota. She grew up and attended school in Staplehurst, Nebraska. After high school she moved to Lincoln, Ne., where she met her husband, George Wylie Pillers Jr. They were married on October 20, 1940, in Immanuel Lutheran church in Staplehurst, Ne. They moved to Detroit, Michigan, where George was stationed in U.S. Army from 1941 to 1944. They moved to Clinton, Iowa, in 1947 where they lived and raised their family. She died Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at the Alverno, after a short illness. Esther was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in Ladies Aide, active with the Clinton County Republicans and also enjoyed playing bridge. Esther is survived by two sons, George Wylie (Lona) Pillers III and James Leigh (Diane) Pillers, both of Clinton; 8 grandchildren, Mark Wylie, Jeffrey, David Pillers, Christine Nichols, Jennifer Kerns, Angela Boone, Danette Mitchell, and Nicole Pillers; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Clifford, Eldon and Don Brandt. She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Pillers Jr., her parents, August and Matilda Brandt; 3 sisters, Lee Koss, Nelda Polzien and Irene Luebbe; and 1 brother, Edwin Brandt. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday, June 14, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Mark W. Pillers, Jeffrey A. Pillers, David M. Pillers, Kris Kerns, David Nichols and Donald Brandt. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be Dr. Dale Wulf. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Alverno Nursing Home.
