1911 - 2003

Genevieve A. Berst, 91, DeWitt, died Saturday morning, Jan. 11, 2003, at Summerfield Retirement Center, Bradenton, Fla.
Genevieve Ann Berst, the former Genevieve Ann Dolan, was born Dec. 18, 1911, in Delmar, Iowa, the daughter of John Dolan and Della Winey Dolan.
On June 14, 1934, Genevieve was united in marriage to Walter Berst. The couple owned and operated Welton Creamery Co. and were well-known in the Quad-City area for Berst’s Better Butter. They were part-time residents of Florida since 1950. Walter preceded Genevieve in death Feb. 13, 1995.
She was a lifetime member of Springbrook Country Club and a former member of Eastern Star.
Surviving are a son, Gordon Berst, and his wife, Marlene, DeWitt; a daughter, Sonia Young Wegner, and her husband, Eugene, Bradenton, Fla.; four grandchildren, Lynn (Ray) Bishop, Leah (Dick) Washmon, Craig (Renee) Young and Jeffrey (Tammy) Young; eight great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Brittney and Ethan Young, Joshua, Ashley and Isabella Young and Wade and Casey Washmon; and a sister-in-law, Katherine Dolan, DeWitt.
Preceding her in death along with her husband were her parents; four brothers, Ed Dolan, Earl Dolan, Jack Dolan and Kenneth Dolan; and a sister, Beatrice Streeter.
Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, 722 8th St., DeWitt, from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Service of Christian Burial will 10 a.m. Thursday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, DeWitt. The Rev. Ginger Taylor will officiate. Interment will be in Oakview Cemetery, Welton.
Memorials may be made to American Macular Degeneration Foundation.
Pallbearers will be Jim Burke, Pat Keefe, Jerry Harkins, Larry Erling, Jeff Young and Craig Young.
Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn "Deke" Schrader, Loyal "Buzzy" Wiese, Harold McMain, Everett Rogers, Ivan Barber and Lawlor McDevitt.
