Ronald `Ron' Bowman 09/06/1998 ELDRIDGE, Iowa -- Services for Ronald T. "Ron" Bowman, of rural Eldridge, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church, Eldridge. The Rev. Daniel Mixdorf will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. McGinnis, Chambers and Sass Funeral Home, Eldridge, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Bowman passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, at his home after a brief illness. He was born July 12, 1934, to Edelman T. and Zelda (Rorah) Bowman in Maquoketa. He was united in marriage to Janet Kreitz on June 19, 1953, in Lexington, Neb. Mr. Bowman was a self-employed auctioneer and livestock dealer. He and his wife formerly owned the United Livestock Commission in Maquoketa. He was a devoted and faithful member of Faith Lutheran Church, Eldridge, where he was a former Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir. He was a charter member of the Curtis, Neb., Lions Club, a charter member, co-founder and past president of the North Scott I-Club, a member and past president of the National I-Club, a member and past president of the North Scott Athletic Boosters, a former member of the North Scott Rotary, a former member of the Davenport Moose, a member of Masonic Lodge 34, DeWitt, Kaaba Shrine, the Jesters, Scott County Farm Bureau, National Cattlemen's Association, Eldridge Centennial Committee and American Angus Association and a charter member of the Eldridge Boy Scouts. He also coached Donahue baseball at all levels, coached the girls 4-H softball leagues and was involved in the Donahue Listen to Me Read program. His hobbies and interests included walking, gardening, fishing and golf. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and supporter, and, most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, the Shriner's Children's Hospitals or the University of Iowa Men's Athletics Associations. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Jan; daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Randy Brockhouse, rural LeClaire, and Sheila and Roger Baustian, rural Davenport; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Tami Bowman, rural DeWitt, and Scott and Linda Bowman, rural Donahue; grandchildren, Sara Olson and her husband, Cory, Tom Brockhouse, Ryan and Ashley Baustian, Brittani, Courtney and Kasey Bowman and Brook, Nichole, Erin and Mitchell Bowman; his extended family, Cindi and Jack Davis and their children, Bridgette and Maggie; sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty and Lester Beck, Maquoketa, Barbara Elmegreen, Eldridge, and Bernadine Rasche, Princeton; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Arlyn Bowman, DeWitt, Robert and Sylvia Bowman, Waverly, and Lavall and Beverly Bowman, Phoenix, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his father on May 21, 1977.
(NOTE ADDED MAY 2004 -- According to Sheila Bowman Baustian [email rdbsrb@netins.net] whose father was Ron Bowman, he was also survived by his mother, Zelda Rorah Bowman, and his brother's name is Lowell instead of Lavall. In addition, a sister and brother-in-law were not listed. They are Mary Jo and Phil Brooks of Yuma, Ca.)
