Sister Rosaleen JONES, OSF, 95, of the Canticle, died Wednesday at Samaritan Hospital North.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Canticle Chapel, 841 13th Ave North, with the Rev Thomas MOHR, chaplain, officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Canticle, third floor, where a 4 p.m. rosary will be conducted. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Cemetery. Pape Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be relatives, friends and members of the Sisters of St. Francis.
She was born March 18, 1903, in Cape Broyle, New Foundland, Canada, to Thomas J. and Sarah ROWLANDS JONES. She was a naturalized United States citizen.
She was educated in St. Mary’s, Cape Broyle, and attended Mount St. Clare Academy. She was a graduate of Mount St. Clare College and St. Ambrose in Davenport. She also studied at Briar Cliff College, Sioux City, the University of Iowa, Iowa City, and DePaul University, Chicago. She received her Iowa Elementary Professional Teaching certificate.
She entered the Sisters of St. Francis on Aug. 25, 1924, and professed her final vows Aug 16, 1930.
She was a primary teacher for 55 years teaching at Churchville, Storm Lake, Grand Mound. Lidderdale and Danbury in Iowa; Tolca, Rochelle and Chicago, Ill.; and Maysville, Ky. Her last assignment was in Chino, Calif., where she was stationed for 19 years. After retiring , she continued in residence there, visiting and praying with ill and elderly shut-ins.
She retired to Mount St. Clare Convent in 1989, and had resided at the Canticle since 1997.
Survivors include a brother, Thomas JONES of Cape Broyle; and a sister, Sister Clotilde JONES of the Alverno Health Care Facility.
She was preceded in death by two brother and three sisters.
