Donald H. Meier (January 24, 1922 - June 1, 2008) DEWITT — Donald Hans Meier, 86, died June 1, 2008, at Westwing Place, DeWitt. He was born January 24, 1922, in Walcott, Iowa, the son of Fred H. and Hilda M. (Husen) Meier. He married Marilyn Schroeder October 21, 1943, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound, Iowa. She died December 8, 2007. They farmed for 25 years. Don retired from Iowa Mutual Insurance Company, DeWitt. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound and Age Right. Surviving are his children and their spouses, Raejean and Dr. Alfred Nunes, Dallas, Texas; Donna and John Ploog, Park View, Iowa, and Sherryl Mitchell, Seattle, Washington; and Craig (Joanne) Meier, Elgin, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Jody (Rodney) Harris, Jennifer Nunes, Jeff (Penny) Ploog, Jason (Rena) Ploog, Chris (Erica) Schwenneker and Jill (Micah) Hutt, Joshua Meier and Amanda Meier; seven great-grandchildren, Erica, Robin, Natalie, Zach, Lauren, Cara, and Mara; brother, Grover (Lois) Meier, DeWitt, Iowa; and sisters, Luella Burzlaff, DeWitt, Iowa and Lucille Petersen, Calamus, Iowa. Preceding Don in death were his parents, his wife, a son-in-law, Steve Mitchell, a grandson, Danny Nunes and brothers, Vernon and Ralph Meier. Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2008. A service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2008, in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound. The Rev. Dennis Arndt will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Mound. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church. Pallbearers will be Jeffery Ploog, Jason Ploog, and Joshua Meier and Wayne Whitman, David Whitman, Donald Burzlaff, Ken Meier and Alan Lee.
