Kathryn A. “Kathy” Gerber, age 82 of Clinton, died Friday, June 6, 2008 at Mercy North Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00 am at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Clarence Cemetery in Clarence, IA. Casket bearers will be Lenny and Justin Gerber, Chad Housenga, James McCright, Justin Olmstead, and Chuck Empen. Honorary pallbearer will be Michael Dierks. Kathy was born on Oct. 7, 1925 in Clarence, IA, the daughter of Ralph and Eleanor (Davis) Sawyer. She graduated from Clarence High School in 1943. She was married to Roger J. Gerber on Aug. 11, 1945, in Clarence, IA. She had worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids as an X-ray technician. She and her husband owned and operated Gerber Insurance Company and farmed west of Clinton until 1969. It was then they moved to Sun City, AZ, where they lived for 23 years. They had spent most summers in Clinton to be near their family. They moved to Clinton in 1993. Kathy is survived by her husband, Roger J. Gerber of Clinton; a son, Roger D. (Connie) Gerber of Preston, IA; two daughters, Diane (Jim) Dierks of Clinton and Patricia “Patti” (Jan) Housenga of Camanche; seven grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and six stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and a sister. Her greatest love was for her family.Death date: June 6, 2008
