Accident Fatal to Area Native
George Melvin JOHNSON, 51, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Clinton, was killed Tuesday evening when the brakes of the semi-truck he was driving failed and he plummeted over a 200 foot embankment near Mesa. He was pulling a portable rock crusher at the time of the accident.
The body is being returned to the Shadduck funeral home, where private funeral services will be held at 1: p.m. Monday. Friends may call after noon Sunday. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery.
Mr. JOHNSON was born Feb. 27, 1913 in Almont, the son of George and Myrtle PRIMMER JOHNSON. He attended Clinton County schools and was a graduate of Lyons High School. For several years he worked for the Pillsbury Feed Co. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the Latter Day Saints Church of Utah in Mesa.
He is survived by three sons, Donald, Robert and Ronald, all of Mesa; one stepson, Eddie STOLTENBERG of Clinton; his mother of Bettendorf; one sister, Mrs. Eulah WRIGHT of Bettendorf; one brother, Lowell, of Mesa and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
