CAMANCHE — Gerald O. Mayberry, 76, of Camanche, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 13th, 2008, at the Mercy Medical Center, ER, in Clinton. Gerald was born September 30th, 1931, in Jackson County, son of Leona (Campbell) Mayberry and the late Earl Mayberry. He married Beverly Crowe on September 13th, 1953. She survives. He was a 1949 graduate of Maquoketa High School where he was a standout athlete in football and wrestling. He later attended Upper Iowa University where he met his wife, Beverly, and was the captain of the football team for three years. He was proud to have served his country in the United States Army from 1955-57. After the service he lived in Brainard, MN, until 1965 when they moved to Clinton and managed Pine Ridge Trailer Court for 34 years until he retired. Besides his wife, Beverly; and his mother, Leona (Campbell) Mayberry; his survivors include one son, Jay Mayberry, Clinton, one daughter, Renee Flanagan, McKinney, TX; three grandchildren, Kassandra, Ashleigh and Alex; four brothers, Bill (Nancy) Mayberry, Wayne (Barbara) Mayberry, both of Maquoketa; Phil (Madelyn) Mayberry, Marshalltown and David (Ellen) Mayberry, DeWitt; one sister, Marilyn (Ken) Nagel, W. Des Moines; one sister-in-law, Mardell Mayberry, Omaha; 23 nephews and nieces. Besides his father he was preceded in death by one brother, Ron Mayberry. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at St. Marks Methodist Church, Camanche. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Maquoketa where full military honors will be performed. Friends may call on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services all at the church in Camanche. Pallbearers for the service will be Alex, Gary, Jim, Steve, Kip Mayberry and Todd Nagel. The Lemke Funeral Home and Cremation Services, South Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
