(January 27, 1941 - April 23, 2008) CLINTON — Julie Ann Smith, 67, DeWitt, Iowa, died late Wednesday evening, April 23, 2008, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa. Julie was born January 27, 1941, at Clinton, Iowa. She was the daughter of Philip and Harriet (Eggers) Sheridan. Julie graduated from Clinton High School in 1959 and was a cheerleader while there. She attended Mt. St. Clare and Marycrest College where she received her teaching degree. Julie was a former Miss Clinton County, Homecoming Queen and Gateway Classics Queen. She taught 3rd grade in Low Moor for three years. On August 27, 1961, she married Baird Smith in Clinton, Iowa. They raised their family on the farm. Julie was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, DeWitt, where she was on the church council. She was a PEO member, sold real estate for Mel Foster. She was a member of Springbrook Country Club where she was active on committees and was a board member. She loved her family, golfing and especially adored her grandchildren. Surviving are her husband, Baird; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Sharon, DeWitt, Kevin and Peggy, DeWitt and Mark and Melanie, Van Meter, Iowa; grandchildren, Tyler, Lindsay, AJ, Karson, Cameron, Marshall and Harrison Smith; step grandchildren, Stacy Miller and Todd Coble and sister-in-law, Joy Smith. Julie was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Ron Sheridan, her mother-in-law, Helen Smith, father-in-law, Herb Smith and brother-in-law Don Smith. The family will receive friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 3:00 until 7 p.m. on Monday, April 28, 2008. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, DeWitt. Rev. Kenneth Reiter officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Pallbearers will be Steve Young, Dan Condon, Bud Selk, Jack Scott, Wayne Dahl and Jim Kuehl. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Smith, Lindsay Smith, AJ Smith, Karson Smith, Cameron Smith and Harrison Smith. Memorials may be left to On With Life, Springbrook Country Club or Central Saber Boosters.
